On Saturday, June 1, Bernie Sanders for President 2020 is hosting the FIRST grassroots fund and friend-raising event – and it’s taking place here in San Francisco!
Bernie himself will speak, and there will be entertainment, food trucks, and a few surprise guests. I wanted to let you know first – you are getting the invite in advance of the official invite going out to the full Sander’s Bay Area network!
Three years ago, Senator Bernie Sanders campaigned on a progressive agenda that was labeled as “radical” and “extreme.” This agenda included Medicare for All, a $15 an hour minimum wage, free tuition at public colleges and universities, aggressively combating climate change and demanding that the wealthy start paying their fair share of taxes. The pundits and establishment called it crazy or at best imaginative ideas the American people would never accept. Well, we proved them wrong.
In 2016, inspired by the national conversation Senator Sanders was stirring, I worked with you, AFT2121, the San Francisco Labor Council, countless organizers, students and everyday San Franciscans to pass an ultra luxury real estate revenue to make San Francisco the ONLY city in the nation to make community college free for all San Francisco residents. Two years prior, I worked with you to pass the strongest $15 minimum wage ordinance in the nation. And in 2016, the state of California followed, passing a statewide $15 minimum wage bill.
San Francisco and California can and should lead the way. In fact, millions of Americans are standing up and fighting to implement this agenda because they know it will impact the lives of every day Americans for the better, while expanding opportunities for all of us. These policies are now supported by a majority of Americans.
