Eddy Zheng Update: Final Final Hearing!

From Anmol Chadha. Organizer:

The final part of Eddy Zheng’s deportation hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday March 22 at 1pm in San Francisco.

His hearing was originally expected to last only one day; testimony
did not finish on February 6, and it resumed on February 13. After all the witnesses testified on Feb 13, the judge requested that Eddy’s legal team produce an “expert” witness who could testify about the value of rehabilitated ex-offenders in the community. We’ve lined up an extraordinary group of experts to testify in support of Eddy at his final hearing and are very optimistic.

The expert witnesses include: – a former director of the entire California Department of Corrections – the head of the National Center on Crime and Delinquency – a supervising parole agent in San Francisco who knew Eddy when he worked as a guard in San Quentin state prison – a former San Francisco police officer who directed inmate programs in state prisons

As always, it is absolutely critical to pack the courtroom. This will be the final hearing, and the immigration judge may issue a decision that very day or very shortly thereafter as to whether Eddy will be deported to China.

The hearings so far have gone very well. The huge turnout of supporters, as well as the attendance of staffers representing Congressman Mike Honda, Assemblymember Wilma Chan, and Assemblymember Mark Leno, have made a big impact. Testimony from Eddy’s mother, sister, wife, the Assistant District Attorney who prosecuted him for his original crimes in 1986, several community leaders, long-time friends, and Eddy himself have presented a very persuasive case.

This is a public hearing, and supporters will be allowed in the
courtroom. It should last about 2-3 hours. Please let me know if you plan to be there (achadda@gmail.com).
