aspiring matier or ross. or around city hall. (a jane kim kid's debut).

no need for introductions, let’s get to the nitty gritty – novice politics!

(apologies, i tend to dislike capitalizing. or writing in full sentences. or making sense. i have a healthy case of verbal diarrhea.)

the impressionable outlook of one youth commissioner:

on the parental units and the youth commission:
they’re still proud, but are feeling more royally cheated for me since yc’ers don’t receive stipends like other city appointed commissioners. it’s the principle, dammit. at least a fast pass, better yet, an adult fast pass, would suffice. in conclusion, BART is currently robbing me alive.

maybe i should write a resolution to urge the board of supes to take action on this particularly compelling bread and butter issue of mine.

speaking of issues:
as part of the public health and housing committee, I’m jetting to the sucker free to visit two key organizations tomorrow.5:30p, a q&a session with folks from the mission neighborhood health center. Specifically, for the youth program called latinos en extasis (how cool is that?!) tis in my recently adopted home turf, d.9. and at 6-8p, attending the larkin street youth services town hall. hey, if maria shriver visited, so can i.

and the forecast ahead? full commissioner meetings. committee meetings. helping to flush out a workshop for the literacy for environmental justice (LEJ) education not contamination conference, additionally, I’d like to get involved in a transitional youth task force, as well as the status of women’s human trafficking selection review.

i’ll write more extensively on my take, musings, and past and present resolutions discussed in a later blog.

on my mayoral liaison:
his mantra? whatever the gav says.
he’s a big fan of care not cash and affordable housing, though he shirked the question on what “affordable housing” was. other than that, our meetings have been informative to put it kindly, and indoctrination sessions of newsom’s ‘4 pillars’ platform if i were telling the truth.

say, the lady yc’ers believe that it is truly a brilliant conspiracy that all newsomnites are dashing young white men. go figure. no wonder matt gonzalez didn’t win; he didn’t subscribe to hair gel! the mayor’s office seems to be an equal opportunity employer for SWM. or an affirmative action player for the disturbingly good looking.

on affirmations. in today’s rank of super cool stands:
the new justice league has formed. and they’re conspiring against the conservatives. and the youth-haters. in particular, alicia and kevin stand out as my super cool youth allies for tonight.

ms. yang is one sweet womyn dying to give out the dcyf youth empowerment funding advisory board’s (YEFAB) wad of greens to deserving youth organizing campaigns, and her contagious enthusiasm make it all the worthwhile for me to be sitting on the ad hoc committee. plus, you’ll never escape her world-famous bear hugs!

kevin liao, the yc youth empowerment director, is also very cool beans – bc he’s like another jane kim, but hailing from the south side of chicago. he even sounds poetic even when he talks, as if he were a slammin’ spoken word superhero. he organized a happening town hall in d.9, and has been facilitating real community building! plus he knows how to work a natural gas bump.

on the commissioners themselves:
for the most part, the yc familia is a brilliant bunch that I feel privileged to be a part of, though there are some over-inflated egos. Just the classic group dynamics – the harmonizer. the elaborator. the information seeker. the deviant. the recognition seeker.internal leader. the dominator. the energizer. opinion seeker, etc. but I feel that it’s necessary tension, plus some bit of organizational drama is always unavoidable.

on helpful resources -the sunshine ordinance:
apparently, there is a most exciting video/power point presentation available on the city attorney site! tis 1.5 hours long. enjoy! Click Here.

on getting more of the san francisco youth commission:
Go to our website
or just sit in on our full commission meetings, on 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 5:00pmat City Hall – 1 Dr. Carlton B.Goodlett Place (between Grove & McAllister Streets) – in room 416

and on showers:
i tend to get the best ideas and epiphanies when i jump into the shower.

and after that, as with any college student, i’m going to be doing the prep work for the “F” word.

FINALS.

night!

thanks diana for informing us on what’s hot (and not) at the youth commission. i can’t wait for more nitty gritty pang and pang “around city hall”.
