November 2007 Election!!

Dear Friends,

Here is the list of my endorsements for the upcoming election:

Mayor: Dual Endorsement
Ahimsa Sumchai – AND –
Quintin Mecke

For most, this election is a done deal and Gavin is headed to his second term. However, we all know that Gavin’s narrow victory over solid progressive candidate, Matt Gonzalez, was a wake-up call to Gavin (who outspent Matt 7:1) and brought Gavin more to the left (his highly publicized support for gay marriage, hotel workers strike and universal healthcare).

It is important to utilize this race as a platform to shape the priorities of San Francisco the next four years too. Strong support for these community candidates will show “Team Gavin” that San Francisco’s values remain progressive.

Plus, Ahimsa and Quintin are incredibly intelligent and quite the policy wonks. Check out their websites and their great ideas for San Francisco.

San Francisco Local Propositions

Prop A Muni Reform : YES YES YES!!
Infuse money and resources to build a world-class, green public transportation system. We need this.
Prop B “Commission Hold-Overs”: Yes
Prop C “Public hearings on proposed measures”: No
Prop D “Library Preservation Fund”: YES

Prop E “Mayoral attendance at Board of Supervisors meetings”: Yes
If you thought you voted yes for this before, you did. But it was an advisory measure which the Mayor refused to comply with when it passed with a majority of voters last November. This proposition would require the Mayor to appear before the Board of Supervisors. This will increase public access to the mayor and increase accountability and open government. Even the San Francisco Chronicle said YES to this.
Prop F: No Position
Prop G “Funding Golden Gate Stables”: No Position
Prop H Transit, NOT Traffic : NO NO NO!

The Sierra Club, the SF Democratic Party, the SF Labor Council, and community organizations across the city say No to Prop H. The SF Planning Department estimates that Prop H will put 20,000 new vehicles on our streets. Prop H also considers Hummers to be “low-emission vehicles.”
Prop I “Office of Small Business”: No Position
Prop J “Contracting a City-wide Wireless Internet system with a private partner”: No Position
Con: I believe SF should have a publicly owned Wi-Fi system. Pro: But, we may never get free Wi-Fi if we wait for the city to get its act together in order to have capacity to run a free wireless internet system. Read the SF Bay Guardian’s opinion on this and make your own decision.
Prop K “Limit Ads on street furniture”: YES
