parent support

There are two weeks left ‘til Election Day and we have stepped up the visibility portion of my campaign.

I started my week on Monday morning at 7:30am with Sarah Lipson, Vice President of the Board of Education, at West Portal Muni stop. Folks were quite friendly there! That evening, Norman Yee, President of the School Board, his wife Cathy and daughter, Chandra, hosted a house party to introduce me to many of his friends who are active in early childcare, family child care centers, youth work and education. Norman has a devoted community of friends! My second stop that evening, was Cabaret Night, hosted by Teachers for Social Justice and substitute teacher, Arnold, for myself and Kimshree Maufas. All the singers at Octavia Lounge were incredibly fun and talented.

Last night, SFUSD parents, Terry Factora, President of PTA at Guadalupe Elementary School, Pauline Vela, parent at Alice Fong Yu Elementary School and Sandy Fewer, parent at Washington High School, hosted a house party in the Excelsior. We had some great conversations about the growth of dual language immersion programs at the Elementary School level and how we have not developed a plan to continue them in Middle and High Schools and the need for training and support for School Site Councils (SSC). By the way, Terry makes some mean meatballs.

As someone who has worked with students, it has been great to get strong parent support, as well as youth support. Thank you!
