Happy Holidays and Last message for 2004
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Happy Holidays from the campaign!
I wanted to send out a final message before the end of the year to express my deepest gratitude for everyone’s support!
First, congratulations to two of our campaign allies, ERIC MAR and MARK SANCHEZ, who will remain on the school board, maintaining the progressive voice for teachers, students and parents. Congratulations also to Norman Yee who will bring experience, independence and knowledge of our communities to the board.
For me personally, I am back at Chinatown Community Development Center as the Youth Programs Director for my 5th year, developing leadership, advocacy and civic participation programs for young people, ages 14-21. Please come see us on one of our historical and political youth-led tours of Chinatown! (More info below).
I am very proud of and excited about this past campaign. I felt like I worked with a dream team of campaign staff and volunteers.
I am most excited that we were able to continue building upon the progressive movement of San Franciscans, people of color and young people in the SF electoral politics scene. I am excited about the impact that we made and that we are going to CONTINUE to make.
___
II. ACCOMPLISHMENTS of our campaign:
1) We increased the number of young people, activists and organizers involved in the issue of SF public education and raised interest and knowledge on local electoral politics.
2) In the end, we garnered 64,968 votes in San Francisco, thanks to a kick ass volunteer crew of 300 BODIES.
3) Thanks to a fantastic field operation team—Dave Ho, Carolyn Tran, Rosa Wong-Chie, Diana Pang and Wendell Lin, we organized one of the largest (if not the largest) volunteer driven campaigns in San Francisco that dropped over 112,000 pieces of literature in 300 precincts!

III. HERE ARE WAYS TO STAY INVOLVED!
These are great groups that individuals in our campaign are involved in. There are many more! But a few notables:
1) Teachers 4 Change and Teachers 4 Social Justice
Contact: Jeremiah Jeffries
Interested in what’s happening in education organizing? Check out:

and sign up on their email list for meeting and action updates!
2) League of Pissed Off Voters
Contact: Amy Scott, cherrieames@yahoo.com or Annie Lo, annie.lo@gmail.com
The mission of the League of Pissed Off Voters is to build a
progressive governing majority in our lifetime through leveraging the
community power of young people and people of color. We are
constantly recruiting hot new members in San Francisco, getting
knowledge for ourselves & others on relevant local and state political
issues, raising awareness by throwing crunk events, and building
partnerships with other organizations that share our vision. Don’t
sleep. http://www.indyvoter.org
3) SF People Organization
SF People’s Organization is a new, grassroots, membership-driven
collective. SFPO is a multi-issue advocacy group which looks to
watchdog, educate, inform the public about local government, and
support legislation and candidacies for a more progressive San
Francisco.
They are hosting their Founding Convention:
Saturday, June 11, 2004
St Mary’s, 1111 Gough St.

In addition, I am going to upkeep our website: www.janekim.org starting January 2005. Look out for future blogs, possible bulletin boards posted by students at SFUSD, resources and links to other community organizations/groups and more.
