mo' moe

Moe, (aka Anmol Chaddha), good friend and incredibly talented, intelligent activist and organizer, left for NY on Sunday for a new job. Moe worked at the Applied Research Center in Oakland and is the main organizer for the Asian Prisoners Support Committee with Yuri Kochyama. He is the only reason why Eddie Zheng’s case is on the map amongst activists and elected officials in the Bay (check out www.eddyzheng.com). And he organizes the dopest events!

Moe was one of the first friends and fellow organizers I called when I was thinking of running for school board. I respect his opinion and work. Moe is also one of the first people on my list that I call to get involved in any project that I am working on.

He was at the first meeting that I convened (with a close group of young community organizers and activists that I most respect and trust), at which, after a long discussion, I decide to run. I did not want to run unless I had the backing and commitment of these individuals. I wanted to build a base campaign team of under 35 leaders and organizers that are already making waves in their community, to make an electoral impact in San Francisco. That was exciting to me.

Moe was a core campaign coordinator, organizing all our events and calendar. Persistent, dedicated, smart and sarcastic and funny as hell, he is a REAL treasure. There are very few intelligent and organized people that aren’t already swooped up in millions of other projects. I somehow found one (and really a few more). He emailed all my friends at least 5 times to host house parties, he called people’s offices every day to set events and logistics, he climbed ladders and taped posters on lamp posts, dropped precincts and tabled on multiple street corners.

Moe was ALWAYS there. Eddy, another amazing and inspiring young person, who I was fortunate enough to have met through Moe, calls Moe, his “guardian angel.”

I already miss you Moe! (Even Dave misses you. And anyone that has Dave Ho’s respect has passed the highest test of work ethic. Dave is a monster on the field. It is hard to keep up with him and he is a harsh critic if you can’t.)

What a campaign. It’s 12:40am. My roommate, famous blogger MJ, has been making over 150 buttons next to me while Enrique and Dean work on a bilingual literature piece.

Major props to MJ, Annie, Mateo and Carolyn who have made at least 200 buttons each!

Read Eddy Zheng’s blog “Thought Behind Bars”: eddyzheng.blogspot.com. Another individual’s support that I am honored to have.
